Candle ceremony, music, fun, storm, Cliffs Of Moher and Doolin marquee wedding- Tony & Claire
The day was everything we wanted and more; from the morning right up until the end of the night. It was a feel good, fun and relaxed day.
Tony – What made the day special for me was the smile on Claire’s face when we saw each other for the first time that all our family and friends were there to celebrate our special day. Claire’s cousin Colin doing the ceremony, Ethna and Eoin doing the reading. Colm with the ceremony music, Marina (Simon the best man’s wife) looking after us like the 4th grooms man. Paolo Nutini with the poem and getting up to sing a few songs. Having a dip in the sea the morning of the wedding.
Claire –The day was so special. After all the planning and help our friends gave us over the past few months to see it all come together was so special and meant the world to Tony and myself. My cousin Colin performed the ceremony in the most relaxed but special way. Tony’s mom Annetta made our amazing wedding cake and cupcakes (people are still talking about them). Our friend Colm played the music as I walked up the aisle to Tony. Ethna and Eoin did the readings for us. Both our families had helped us so much and to celebrate our day with them was amazing.

Claire and I met in America at a Summer camp for kids with special needs called Camp Krem. As I (Tony) was currently dating another girl at the time we met we were just friends. Later in the Summer when I got back from America that relationship didn’t last and Claire and I’s friendship grew becoming more than just friends, we talked, hung out and began dating … as they say the rest is history!
The proposal night … was a funny one.. in a good way… Friday 18th January, our anniversary came around I said to Claire, let’s do something fun … lets recreate our first date! So like our first date we met after work and went to Eddie Rockets on Dame Street, we even got the same booth we sat in for our first date. Then from there we went onto Doyles where we had a drink but bumped into one of Claire’s friends who invited us to join her and her brother to a table quiz (Claire loves table quizzes) but I was like oh no it’s going to ruin my proposal plans so I had to decline the offer which made me sound like a jackass but hey I had a plan to keep to! So we finished up our drinks and walked to the bus stop where we had our first kiss. It was getting really windy and raining at this stage and I recall Claire saying we don’t have to go over (our bus home was in another direction) but I kept to the plan. There was construction work going on at the time so the actual bus stop was sealed off but we kissed beside it, then the moment of truth … in the wind and rain I said I know we said no gifts but I wanted to get you something so I took a ring box from my jacket and gave it to her and smiled. I said it’s just something I thought you would like … not knowing her ring size there was a note that read “Will You Marry Me Clairebear?” We both smiled.. Claire said YES and we kissed…. Happiness!
We wanted our guests to have fun and we wanted the day to reflect us as a couple. From the badges, the trivia cards, table numbers being albums we like to the photo place cards; it all came together in the end. I think we knew what we wanted, marquee style vibe with the chivari chairs (no seat cover chairs), the centerpieces with the mason style jars etc. Louise from Grace Events had everything and understood what we wanted for our special day. Louise really went above and beyond and we cannot thank her enough.
Claire and I looked at so many venues before we decided on Hotel Doolin, but what sealed the deal was when we drove in from the Cliffs of Moher and saw the view and the drive into the village of Doolin. Doolin is such a beautiful place. Donal (hotel manager) was so helpful and understood what we were looking for. Claire and I knew it was “the one”. Paul from Hotel Doolin became our wedding co-ordinator. Paul and the rest of the Hotel Doolin team were amazing on the day. They looked after our guests so well from booking people in to the very last one leaving.
