Andrew Sings His Bride Una Up the Aisle – Irish Autumn wedding in Doolin Barn

Our wedding was a weekend of ceol, ol, craic and good company! It turned out to be everything we wanted it to be and more. The people and the setting made it so special. The look we kind of went for was kind of rustic, we wanted to keep it fairly earthy and minimalist, we wouldn’t be into the frills!

We wanted our guests to be able to completely relax, let their hair down and enjoy good music, good food and basically just have the craic!

The atmosphere at Hotel Doolin was different to any other venue we had considered. There is something a bit special about the place, the warmth and welcome we experienced as soon as we walked in the door won us over. As soon as we saw photos of what the barn would be like (bit of a leap of faith – it was a building site when we booked it!!) we were sold – it just seemed ideal for the kind of day we had in mind.

My husband decided to sing me down the aisle… to say I was surprised would be more than mildly understating it! I barely held it together – a beautiful start to a brilliant day.

Olga – MrsRedhead Photography was an absolute dream to have photograph our wedding. To be honest I wasn’t completely sure how I would feel about somebody photographing us getting ready the morning of but she was so good and made the whole experience so much fun – and we actually love those preparation photos. Her suggestion to take our photos in Portumna forest park, having noticed the stunning autumnal colours of the trees, gave us the most beautiful and special photos. Olga made the whole experience so enjoyable – her ability be so enthusiastic, so much craic and completely professional at the same time is beyond rare! She made two quite camera shy people feel completely comfortable striking a variety of poses, and we couldn’t be happier with our photos.

They look so natural and candid, exactly what we had hoped for. Not to mention that with had them within a mere matter of weeks after the wedding!

Thank you Olga, we cannot recommend you enough!

How did the proposal go, if there was one?

Not exactly to plan – it was supposed to be at a beautiful viewing point in our local Forest Park. Andrew had picked me up at the airport on Christmas Eve (I was living in Scotland at the time), and was rushing home to bring me in to the forest to pop the question before it got dark. I, being completely oblivious, had other plans. I was a few Christmas presents short so persuaded him to make a quick stop at a shopping centre on the way home. By the time he dragged me away from the shops it was already getting dark and was pitch black by the time we got home. He ended up going down on one knee in the kitchen!

What advice would you give to couples planning their day?

Don’t sweat the small stuff – you’re having far too much fun on the day to notice any of it. And for the ladies – wear waterproof mascara!!
