All the bells and whistles for Brian & Mark’s big day in Doolin Barn – Mrsredhead

By MrsRedHead In Weddings

We wanted all the bells and whistles for our big day but with a relaxed and fun vibe also.

The main priorities for us were good food, nice venue and good entertainment. We felt that if we started with these everything else would fall into place.

Olga – Mrsredhead couldn’t have made the planning process or the day any easier. Olga is easy going and organised, the planning was simple, she listened to what we wanted, made some suggestions and we came up with our plan.

On the day, she captured everything, and you’d hardly know she was there. She was so accommodating, driving us to the photo location and never put pressure on us to rush, we got all the photos we wanted and still had time to enjoy the reception. The photos themselves came back better that we expected, all so natural and varied.

Both having a background in hospitality the traditional hotel wedding didn’t appear to either Brian or Mark, with Hotel Doolin you get all the benefits of a hotel but there’s something different about it all. Both the hotel and the village of Doolin have so much to offer so after one visit… we both knew it was the place for us!

Having both lost close family members a few years back it was important for us to have them feature in our day. We lit candles in memory of them and they remained burning all throughout the ceremony, meal and afters.

We also wore pendants with their pictures inside our jackets. We had both our mother’s walk us down the aisle, this will be a moment we will both treasure forever and we had a special first dance with our mothers to “Isnt she lovely” reworded a little to suit.

What advice would you give to other couples planning their day?

Don’t get bogged down in the minor details, you don’t have to plan every detail. When it comes to the day, all the work is done so just let it happen, if things don’t go exactly to plan its not the end of the world… just soak up all the fun!

How did the proposal go, if there was one?

The proposal didn’t go exactly as planned… On a trip to Malaga in September 2019, Brian was hinting to Mark for a few day about impending proposal but as like all hints about presents around Christmas and Birthday’s Mark didn’t get any of them. After a bit of liquid courage on day 3, Brian finally plucked up the courage to go down on one knee… resulting in Mark nearly hitting the floor, such was the shock. Of course it was a yes… once Mark finally picked himself up!

How did you meet originally and get together? (We love a good love story!)

At one time or another we both worked at the Castletroy Park Hotel, in Limerick but not at the same time. We met first in 2013 and various times out over the years through mutual friends but it was not until a night out in early 2017 with mutual friends when we properly got chatting and things went from there (ie a Kiss in the Icon Nightclub in Limerick!!)

Where did you go/are you planning on going on honeymoon? Would you recommend it?

After the wedding we did a mini moon to Kilkenny where we stayed at Lyrath Estate Hotel for 4 nights to chill out and relax after the wedding and it was top notch!

We did the big trip in September. We booked through Trailfinders and went San Francisco for 4 night, then we went to Miami for a night before a 7 night Caribbean Cruise, we finished with a 4 night trip to New York. It was brilliant, probably a once in a lifetime trip as we wont have anything as long in the future. We had never done a cruise before and are already wondering where we could do another one… as for San Francisco and New York… who wouldn’t want to go back… we won’t do it all together though.
