Eileen & Damian , Sam Maguire Cup and their lovely wedding at Salthill Hotel in Galway – Juniper & Ruby
We are bright bubbly people that love getting together with our friends and families, and we felt we would think of it as a great big party filled with love and happiness.
If you ask my family they would say I have been planning this wedding since I met Damian. And it’s true! Damian and I really had key ideas from the start, be it from our travels, and attending family and friends wedding’s, we had a sense of what we wanted our ‘I do’ to be, and what was important. I knew living so far away it would be difficult so I called on my sister Maria, my mother Noreen and my sisters events company Juniper & Ruby to support. Damian and I created key ideas and boards pretty quickly so the ‘wow’ factor was set from the beginning.
The highlight of our wedding was walking down the aisle, surround by family and friends, past and present and knowing I had a family priest that has known our family for over seventeen years made the ceremony all so special.
Sam Maguire and Liam McCarthy Cups paid a visit. Damian and I are Mayo fans, and the surprise of walking into the function room as Mr & Mrs Burke with Sam Maguire was fun and exciting. Our family were blown away with it, and all could get snaps with the Cups throughout the evening.
Mrs Red Head was everything we wanted and more for our special day. We were keen to ensure pivotal moments for both families were caught on camera. Olga knew how close we were as a family and pictured this so well throughout the day. There were moments where we wanted to remember our loved ones and when we went through the photos after the wedding we were both surprised to see how much they had been incorporated in our day through photos unknown to us.We wanted moments captured and Olga and her team were not only professional but discreet which meant our guests (even my Dad Vincent) could have fun, and celebrate the ‘I Do’s’ together. We would recommend them for any event not just a wedding.

Funny incident: My father Vincent was followed everywhere by the photographers!! Between getting ready to do his farming, eating his breakfast and then getting his suit – he tells people he had no peace but forever grateful for the photos now that he has seen them! He even mentioned them in his memorable and hilarious speech

- The proposal, when was it and what happened? We had planned a Christmas adventure with a visit to Los Angeles to see my brother Kevin and his Girlfriend Dara, and then onto Damian’s favorite USA city, Chicago to see his Uncle Tom & Theresa Burke. I really thought (after so many years!!), he would ask me at some point over the trip, but Damian kept me waiting!! He proposed the second last day of a Christmas vacation. Damian booked for us to stay in the beautiful Ashford Castle in Co Mayo, just a short car journey from our families, on the 5th January 2016. We had a beautiful dinner and stay and he proposed by the open fire. The wait was worth it!

What advice would you give to other couples planning their wedding?
Don’t get caught up in the small details, they will always come together in the end. Enjoy the time with family and friends that came near and far to be with you and celebrate the happy occasion.
Venue
The Salthill Hotel, big shout out to Kerry and Pauline and the Salthill Hotel team for ensuring our day went off without a hitch!
Dress
Samantha Wynne in Perth. Samantha made the moment of choosing my dress so far away from home, feel like being at home. She ensured my mother and sister skyped in, and part of my special moment.
Grooms wear
Patrick Bourke’s Ennis Co. Clare. We were grateful for the guys in Patrick Bourkes, they know men’s clothing like no other.
Photographer
Mrs Red Head- being a red head myself I felt we had common ground. Looking at her website, we felt her photography was the right fit and they did not disappoint.
Cake: Sean O’Ceidigh, my Brother Mikey’s partner – such attention to detail; Sean is so gifted and talented. He knew exactly what we wanted and created a cake beyond expectations. I didn’t see it until the wedding day but was so happy and special to have something so creative made by Sean.
Flowers
Balla Florist provided the rich color and warmth to our day. Judi and her team went above and beyond to ensure the venue was just how we wanted it.
Bridal & Groom Car A car previously owned by Mayo’s own Monsignor Horan, and courtesy of Bartley Horan, a family friend in Kilmaine Co. Mayo.
What personal little details did you add into the day?
All the printing between save the dates, invites, candles, mass booklets, car plates, table plans, and dinner menus were all created so beautifully MW Design & Print Melissa Walsh.
The gold and silver coins exchanged on the day during our vows had a symbol of a lady bird for my late cousin Theresa Molloy.
I had medallions blessed by a priest in Perth, given to me by family friends Lilly & Killian Breen, that could not be there in person, I had sown into my wedding dress as they are special to me.
The back drop for the top table was created by Rita Davin.
Edwina Guckian school of Dancing, there were 10 young Sean Os Dancers from Leitrim who entertained the wedding of over 350
