The vibe was relaxed, joyous and musical.
The look was rustic, countryside, casual with bursts of colour from the fab flowers and décor.
Great food, great wines and great people, a magical few days.
Only wish it lasted longer!
We wanted to create a relaxed atmosphere for our guests. For Gavin the music was a huge part as he is a musician.
For me from day one it was the flowers. Lydia from Vintage Cut Flowers and her colleague Natasha did the most amazing job. The venue for the ceremony was a community hall with a boxing ring in it the day before the wedding. On the morning of the wedding an incredible transformation took place with help from the groomsmen, family and friends, Pauline and the lads from Hotel Doolin, Louise from Grace Events and Lydia from Vintage Cut Flowers turned it into a beautiful venue for our ceremony.
Mrs Red Head was fantastic from start to finish. She popped into us the day before so we could sit down and have a chat about the way we wanted the day to go. We explained that we didn’t want a lot of formal photos and she really took our wish on board. She arrived on the morning of the wedding with Alex and they really felt like part of the wedding. Very relaxed vibe. Alex went with the boys and got some really good shots of them swimming and getting ready. It was lovely to look back on these as I missed that part of the day. It was a lovely surprise seeing them. I would definitely recommend Olga & Alex from MrsRedhead photography.
I hope our paths will cross again.
What made your venue “the one”? – The staff. They were out of this world. Nothing was a problem. We have a restaurant in west cork so we know whats involved in the industry.
From our first meeting with Raquel to dealing with Donal, Paul, Kate, Danny and everyone they were so welcoming and made it all seem terribly easy. We couldn’t recommend the place enough. The Hotel and Marquee are beautiful. Filled with life, music, great food and drink but somehow very relaxed. The hotel gardener Pauline does a beautiful job. The small touches made the whole day so so special. Doolin is a magic place anyway but it’s like the hotel take all the best parts of it (and the west of Ireland) and bring them together in the one place in their own wonderful way.

- Gav was out with his cousins in the local night club he spotted me in the club and decided he wanted to dance with me. He did his signature move of flipping me 180 degrees, got the timing wrong and dropped me on my HEAD. How could I ever forget him after that. This was followed by weeks of funny romantic letters through my post box. Eventually I gave in and never looked back. I might add that he did his signature move at the wedding with the dress on and didn’t drop me. Things are looking up.
- He took me to Ballyvolane House in Castleyons near Fermoy Co. Cork. Before dinner we went for an evening stroll. We had already walked the grounds earlier but he had kept the Walled Garden a secret. All the staff were in on it as it was the first proposal in the House. He opened the gate and we walked through the garden full of manicured hedgrows, flowers, trees and sweet peas. We came to a table and two chairs in the garden set up with Champagne and candles at sunset… I walked straight past and said jeez that looks lovely somebody must be eating outside tonight, he called me back and got on one knee. I had no idea… it was terribly romantic.

My sister’s boyfriend Timmie made us a beautiful wine box with our names on it. This was made from Gavins Grandfather’s wine merchant boxes.
This will be opened in 5 years ( knowing us probably 5 months!) Inside this box are notes from our wedding guests. Cant wait to read them. People were writing essays after a few vinos. Also a lot of our friends and family had huge parts to play in our wedding from the hair to the cake to the make up, music and flowers.
It made everything so personal. The Humanist celebrant Bridget Carlin was so friendly. She did a fantastic job in making the ceremony fun and relaxed and had great suggestions for us beforehand as well.
Our advice: Don’t get stressed. Trust that the venue know what the are doing. Most of all enjoy the day, you spend 12 months building up to it and it barely lasts the blink of an eye.
