Theatre Wedding Ceremony followed by plenty of emotions, laughter, drinking and partying – Aislinn and Kev – MrsRedhead Photography

We wanted our day to reflect who we are while also making sure to keep it relaxed and fun for our guests.

We wanted our family to be involved in our day which is why we chose family for the music, cake, hair and make-up etc.

Our family and friends are very important to us and we wanted to reflect that in our day. We also wanted to make sure our guests were well fed and watered!

I (Aislinn) am big into photography and spent hours going through Instagram profiles until I found MrsRedHead.

As soon as I saw her photos I knew I wanted her. We both loved the look and feel of her photos, the lighting and tone, the natural poses, it was exactly what we were looking for.

We really wanted to minimise the amount of time we spent away from our guests but we also wanted to take some time to get photos done just the two of us. Olga organised this to perfection. We also loved how her photos were mainly in the moment, candid shots. We didn’t want a lot of posed photos. We also decided to get a second photographer ang honestly it was so worth it. Alex stayed and got photos of the guests and venue while Kev and I went with Olga and our videographer to Kilkenny Castle. Alex also was able to take photo’s of Kev and the groomsmen getting ready while Olga was with us girls!

We had so much fun with Olga, from the moment she walked into the bedroom that morning she was enthusiastic and excited and you can really see the passion she has for her career. She was excitedly showing us photos during the day and we honestly couldn’t wait to get them back!

Walking around Kilkenny city getting the photos taken outside shops and bars was great fun and we had such a laugh. When we returned and got the photos with the bridal party I was shocked at how fast we got them all done. They were so much fun to shoot and they are also some of our favourite photos from the whole day and shows all our personalities so well!

The photos that were taken during the ceremony of us and our friends and family were all beautiful. I didn’t notice her or Alex during the ceremony at all. Which is exactly what you want from a photographer.

She has great timing and really captured the day through the photographs. We love how they all tell a story. We could not recommend her highly enough. Thank you so much for capturing our day perfectly, for seeing our vision and telling our story through your pictures.

Aislinn and Kev’s family surprised them with a Flashmob performance during the speeches. It was amazing. They spent weeks before the wedding rehearsing a few times a week!

We both immediately loved the feel and atmosphere of the hotel.

It’s a beautiful (yet deceiving from the outside) venue. The style was very much what we were looking for too. To us it has that vintage speakeasy feel to it with the various rooms and areas. Aislinn fell in love with the Set, as soon as she walked in she started to cry! The venue speaks for itself honestly. The staff also helped make our decision, the second time we visited, they knew who we were and made us feel very welcome!

For us, it was having our friends and family involved in our day that made it so special to us. We also included things like the Quaich cup in the ceremony (which I had never heard of before until our celebrant told us about it),

Myself and my Mum and Dad made a lot of the accessories and Décor and it’s something I have always wanted to do. I had never seen paper flower bouquets before but I figured as I am a teacher and Kev loves music that it would be nice to incorporate that into them through the book and music note pages. My brooch bouquet also included some brooches from family members too.

The use of empty spirit bottles for the tables and décor. We had to use this as our theme as the Bar was the first thing we put together when we moved into our house!

What advice would you give to other couples planning their day?

Don’t’ stress. Enjoy the planning process. If it’s stressing you out take a step back for a while and come back to it when you’re ready. Don’t worry about the small things you honestly don’t notice them on the day!

Make sure to schedule some time to yourselves during the day! Our best man told us to go upstairs for a few minutes to have some ‘us’ time and just chat about the day so far!

Know what photos you want to get, have a list and share them with your photographer, that way you won’t miss anything important!

Don’t be afraid to ask questions either! Your suppliers are there to help.

Welcome sign: Made by my ridiculously talented Mum. She sent me a picture one day and said I just thought of making this what do you think?!

Guest signing frame: Made by my parents. My Dad cut out the tree himself. Then they painted, decorated and added the hearts and two owls.

Sweet cart: Made by my Mum. A beautiful vintage sweet table.

Photobooth 1: Made by my parents and Uncle Peter. I arrived to the house one day and they had it built and almost fully decorated, alcohol themed of course, after our wedding theme. It was well used at the wedding!

Photobooth 2: https://alphapix.ie/ We won a competition with them and had two hours of a photobooth and 1 hour of roving photography where they would walk around and take photo’s of guests. I’m so glad we won this. We have so many hilarious images and photos from this. Guests got their 6 x 4 photos in a sleeve to take home!

Ceremony Decor: Made by myself with help from my Bridesmaid’s. Book page balls for the chairs. The candles in the jars were made by my mum.

Reception Decor: Made by us, hours of melting candles down in spirit bottles. We had a mixture of these and spirit bottles with lights inside them!

Ballroom decor: Made by my Mum (honestly there isn’t anything she can’t do!). Beautiful book page balls with flowers, vine stalks (she handmade these by cutting out the leaves and wrapping them around each stick!). We used lights around the balls too.

My Uncle Peter gave us the wood blocks for the centrepieces. We then had three spirit bottles on each table. One with a candle, one or two with lights in it and one with paper flowers in it.

Quaich cup: Scottish tradition, it was a surprise for my Dad as he’s Scottish. Bought on Etsy.

Handfasting ribbon: made by Aislinn

Thank you bunting: made by Siobhán, Aislinn’s Mum.

Day 2 was held in Bridie’s Bar and the Keltic Kats played folk music for two hours! It was a great excuse to continue the celebrations. A few of us ended up in Langton’s nightclub that night! We continued the celebrations and drowned our sorrows by watching the Ireland vs England Six nations match in the Set Theatre on the Third day. We really didn’t want to leave!
